The world's influential countries are engaged in an evil competition over control of semiconductor industry technology!

Recently, the Dutch administration has issued a notice imposing partial restrictions and controls on the export of semiconductor manufacturing technology, related equipment and software to China. The Netherlands may have imposed the restrictions on the secret advice or direction of the United States to prevent the important photolithography technology of the semiconductor industry from falling into the hands of China. However, the Chinese administration issued a statement expressing extreme concern on Wednesday, January 15.

The world's influential countries are engaged in an evil competition over control of semiconductor industry technology!

The Chinese government of Xi Jinping believes that in order to hinder the development of the global semiconductor industry, some influential countries have recently used the pretext of national security against China to control the export and transfer of technology in the semiconductor industry. As a result, there has been a major threat to the stability of the global semiconductor industry supply chain. China firmly opposes such restrictions and abuse of law. In fact, the ongoing conflict and evil competition between China and the United States over the control of the global semiconductor industry has once again emerged before the world.

In fact, the semiconductor or chip design, manufacturing and marketing sector has emerged as a very important sector all over the world. Basically, this industry serves as the backbone of digital and electronic devices by providing essential components such as micro and nano-meter-sized chips and integrated circuits that are important for today's technological development.  And this highly promising sector is widely dominated by tech giants from the developed world such as Intel, NVIDIA, Samsung, ASML, and TSMC.

Several research organizations on this sector predict that the size of the global semiconductor industry or market could be approximately $996 billion to $1.00 trillion by 2030. Meanwhile, according to the information provided by the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS), the size of the semiconductor market in the current year 2025 could increase by approximately 12.5% to reach $687.18 billion. Whereas in 2024, the overall market size of this sector was approximately $626.87 billion and in 2023 it was approximately $526.89 billion.

In addition to digital and electronic products such as memory and logic sectors, the demand for high-tech nanometer chips in AI chips, defense, drones, 5G technology telecommunication systems, aviation and automotive solutions has increased greatly.  The market for this industry may double to triple in size in the next decade. Currently, Taiwan, the Netherlands, America, China, Japan, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and South Korea have emerged as the world's top local producers of high-tech semiconductors or nanometer chips.

According to the information provided by the Companies Market Cap website, about 18 to 20 countries around the world manufacture semiconductors or chips, but in reality, the Netherlands is the only country in Europe that produces the extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUV) system or photolithography machine, the core technology of this high-tech chip design and manufacturing. Currently, China and Japan claim to have developed photolithography technology, but in reality, the Netherlands is the only producer and exporter of this ultra-high technology in the world.

Recently, China's Huawei and Japan's Canon have claimed to design and manufacture their own photolithography machines. However, although China or Japan claim to have developed their own photolithography technology, it is still considered to be in the initial and experimental stage.  Therefore, Europe's Dutch tech giant Advanced Semiconductor Materials Lithography (ASML) Company (a Dutch multinational corporation) is currently the only company dedicated to manufacturing and exporting photo-lithography machines.

According to the information provided by the Companies Market Cap website, the highly valuable Advanced Semiconductor Materials Lithography (ASML), a Netherlands-based photolithography system manufacturer, was founded in 1984. As of January 2025, the company's market capitalization is $295.01 billion. As such, it is the 33rd most valuable company in the world. According to Wikipedia, the company earned $28.35 billion in revenue and $7.84 billion in net profit in 2023.

The Netherlands-based Advanced Semiconductor Materials Lithography (ASML) company has maintained its strong position as a company that designs, manufactures, and supplies machines for extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUVL) or photolithography technology in the semiconductor industry. In achieving the technological capabilities that superpower countries like America, China, or Russia are still lagging behind, it is said.  And that's why America is now maintaining strict control or surveillance over the Netherlands to prevent this technology from falling into the hands of Russia or China.
